Introduction

I am the father of AdamShand and AmyShand and I have been married to the same wonderful woman, PamShand, for more than thirty years. You may email congratulations and send small amounts of money if you wish.

I am retired, or possibly unemployed if you have something really interesting for me to do. I have spent much of my working life helping abused children, mostly in California. Apart from that, the last ten years or so, I founded with AdamShand and then ran EarthLight, one of the first commercial ISPs in NewZealand.

Now I write, read, watch cricket and rugby and drink cold beer, especially Emerson's and visit The Sounds and wineries around our new home in Marlborough. As you can see the house needed some work but now it's all renovated and I'll maybe post some pictures one day.

I have been interested in how I might best live my life for a long time. Perhaps it was triggered watching London burn in the Great Blitz of 1941, it is the first thing I remember. But I have always had the urge to understand why I am here; I believe most people do. I have collected various bits and pieces that have helped me, and continue to do so. I will post links to them here from time to time. Many of them will refer to meditating, but meditating is a synonym for living.
