The Problems

  1. open source paradigm does not apply. bandwidth is a scarce resource, source code is not.
  2. spectrum battles
  3. volunteers tend to work on the fun problems
  4. lack of hardware platform
  5. lack of *good* software
  6. security
    1. end user security is the users problem (vpn, ssl etc)
    2. network security/stability/usability is ours.
  7. no physical security, no control of hardware, and the potential for very rapid growth makes this a hard problem.
  8. time limit. if we don't make something the user cares about soon, the corps will eventually start selling it cheap enough. this makes it very hard to convince people to part with sweat for access rather then $$'s.
