I learned the word spack while I was living in NewZealand. In the early 90's there was a Australian show on every week called "TheComedyCompany". It was basically just a series of skits (ie. "Saturday Night Live" without the live bit or the famous hosts). One of these skits was of a teenage girl called Kylie Mole (played by MaryAnneFahey) who used the word spack a lot to convey distaste and the general un-coolness of something.
Despite it's origins it came to describe (at least amongst my friends) a form of emotional brokeness, most commonly found in people in relationships. It is sterotyped by the sort of emotionally spastic, teenage angst dating crap so often portrayed by girls in movies.
- eg. Boy meets Girl, Girl dates old boy friend, Boy decides that his life is over and must therefore live on Girl's doorstep begging to be allowed back for the next 18 months.
It can also be used (along with munt, my other favorite piece of KiwiSlang) as a general derogatory term as in:
- "You spack bitch."
- "That was spack-tastic!"
- "I must be spack this week, no girl will talk to me."
"You crazy spack munter ... " (doubled dipped the KiwiSlang on that one)
- "I must leave Dunedin now to find fresh air, before the spack swallows me whole."
So why dedicate an entire domain name towards it? Well no particularly good reason other than it seemed an opportune chance to mock my friends, laugh at other people's weaknesses and generally be a bastard
Got your own piece of spack history? Please add it to the SpackTrivia page.
