Adam:
I ran across your wiki page on IPTC specs:
http://www.spack.org/wiki/IptcSpecification
While checking some back links to the ControlledVocabulary.com site.
Just wanted to let you know that a quantum leap has been taken forward, and you may want to add an update to your page.
As of March 21st, 2005, the IPTC released the revision to the legacy IPTC standard. This new version is called "IPTC Core Schema for XMP" and currently works as a set of custom metadata panels within Adobe Photoshop. Many Image database developers have been informed of what the working group was doing during the past year, and we expect to see some coming out with updates to their products within the year.
As you mentioned on your page that many of the IPTC field were rather cryptic, you might be interested in the fact that there is a new "user's guide" that goes into detail how each of the fields are to be used. As the new IPTC Core contains nearly all the existing fields (a couple were officially deprecated) these definitions might be useful to those landing on your page as well.
The new specification, users guide, custom panels, example images and more is available from http://www.iptc.org/iptc4xmp/
I've also developed several quicktime movies that give an overview of the new schema as well as the individual panels that are available to the general public. The Stock Artists Alliance has graciously agreed to host them at http://www.StockArtistsAlliance.org/ (click on the gray bar at the top for access to the video tutorials section.
You are welcome to reprint any of what I've written as well as the links on your Wiki.
Take care.
David
