JoFreeman is a feminist scholar and activist. She has published nine books (and written a tenth), as well as numerous articles for scholarly and popular journals. She has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago (1973) and a J.D. from New York University School of Law (1982). As can be seen from her article, she was active in several social movements.
