World Cup 2006 in Germany
The World Cup 2006 plan has been postponed due to interest in a National Blog Tour.
Trip Participants: CurtMerrill and MikeMerrill
Events: Things to look into
Will there be any MicroMusic events going on?
Does eBoy have anything going on?
Film Winter looks interesting!
We'll definitely have to spend some time in Heidelberg.
McSweeneys has some suggestions, although they might be a bit beyond the scope of this trip.
Plazes.com seems to have a lot of Germans on it, and may help us find free WiFi!
NDSM, tho not in english, looks amazing. An underground restaurant in amsterdam, only on friday nights.
Pongmechanik is very, very cool.
spacebox.com is something we should look at.
Travel
Looks like things will be much cheaper out of Atlanta. Maybe I (mike) should come visit you (curt) and fly out from Atlanta with you?
I imagine we will fly into Germany, and then go visit Ian. I saw cheap flights to Stuttgart from Atlanta, but nothing about 2006.
To Do
Get Passport (http://travel.state.gov/passport/)
- Look into Airline Tix
- Soccer Match Tix
Buy world travel power adapter
Budget
All figures estimated
Plane Tix (ATL <-> Germany): $1,000 ea.
Plane Tkt (PDX <-> ATL): $400 (Mike only)
- Passport: $85 ea.
- Trains/Buses/Cabs: ???
- Meals: ???
After talking wigh Gene, we should be able to get buy pretty easily on $600/week (includes food and lodging -- maybe intraEurope travel -- but not attractions). Three-week trip, then, will require $1,800 plus travel and other stuff. I'm thinking of budgeting $3,250 as the grand-total. That should be plenty, even for contigencies.
Schedule
Matches in Stuttgart are June 13, 16, 19, 22, 25 and July 8. Is this the only thing we're scheduling around?
Curt's Proposed Schedule:
- Arrive in Germany around June 9.
- Watch game on June 13.
- Other stuff.
- Return to U.S. around July 1 (three weeks).
Proposed Schedule #2:
- Arrive in Germany on/around May 24.
- Watch game on June 13.
- Return to U.S. on/around June 15.
Misc
Do we want a theme? I was thinking: Media and Business. This could be like a fact finding mission. In the movies people always go on "fact finding missions". UrbanHonking could send us on one. Besides, musicians get to tour and be awesome and meet each other, other people should too. As the list of interesting things grows I am starting to see a theme...
What gear should we bring? Doesn't seem like we both need to pack laptops. Can we get by with one digicam between us?
